Taila are preparations in which oil is boiled with prescribed liquid media (Svarasa/Kvatha/Kashaya) and a fine paste (Kalka) of the drugs specified in the formulation composition. The medicated Taila will have the odour, colour and taste of the drugs used in the process. If a considerable amount of milk is used in the preparation, the Taila will have a thick consistency.
